Tuesday I'm supposed to take delivery of #543 D-28CW. I was shopping for a hd28v and this popped up on the Martin forum for not much more than I had been planning to spend.

Anyone got pictures of their D-28CW for me to look at until I get this one in my hands? Laughing

Ohh that's an early one! Very Nice!

What do you think of the D-28CW line Brian? Any professional opinions. I've only played one.

Also, what are you doing with that one?

Very nice Brian. The color of the back of of the neck on yours looks really nice in that sunlight. I unfortunatly was unable to test mine out before buying, but it was the best deal I've seen on the UMGF in awhile.

My UPS update says "Out for Delivery". Three of the finest words of the English language.

I know it's been debated over at the Martin forum, but what do you guys think about wings on the headstock of a d-28CW?

Brain,

The UPS truck is still "out for delivery"! I know it has wings, the seller told me so. I bought it from one of the guys on the UMGF. I would never buy a guitar before playing it, but this was a good deal, at just a bit more than a hd28v which is what I was shopping for in the first place.

This will be my first winged Martin.

Both of my D-18s were sans-wings.

Murr,
You're telling me that you have not heard of headstock wings? I know you're a UMGF member, so I find it hard to believe you've missed out on all the debates. Smile Just kidding...

They are grafted pieces of mahogany to the edges of the headstocks. When you see in Martin specifications "select hardwood" it means you may get a one piece spanish cedar neck, 1 piece hog neck, or 3 piece hog neck.

They don't bother me, however, both of my d-18s lacked them. If I want to get really nitpicky there are probably other things to pick at on this guitar that doesn't make it an authentic repro besides the wings.

I think glueing neck pieces together dampens the flow of sound vibrations.
As for that other forum, HEE! ..it's neither fish nor fowl (and seems anti bluegrass) ..I'm just there temporarily to see how receptive the finger-pickers were to one of my youtube vids. Very Happy

I got at the D-28CW about an hour and 40 mins ago. Aside from being almost mint this guitar is unbelivable. The neck is really fast. Faster than my D-18v which I thought was a speedy neck compared to my D-18GE.

I may be a rosewood guy now. Wink
