I found a mess of KFAT broadcasts from 1982. On the 8th one, I heard what must be Clarence doing "Tell me baby, why you been gone so long". Never heard this version before. Does anyone know if this was on some record?

Go to: http://audio.lns.com/more_airchecks/kfat/1982_12/

Download the "kfat08.mp3" and zap up to about 2:00 into the track. Much other great music there also.

Hiya,

that's the "silver meteor" version.. you can get the cd from john @ sierra

There's also a brilliant live version on the "live in sweden" bootleg.

according to Wikipedia, this album was released in 1982, 9 years AFTER clarence died.
HOWEVER...marty stuart played on this album, which means he was probably playing clarence's guitar, i believe he bought it around 1980.

Damn, I knew Marty played lead with Cash for a tiime but didn't connect that track with Marty. He sure sounds similar to Clarence on that one! Had me fooled!
