One of my old favorites. Interesting to compare the Byrds version to the Louvin Brothers. I think you guys should work your way through all of "Sweetheart of the Rodeo--40 years after the original you'd be considered post-modernist trendsetters!

Interesting, I had never heard the Louvin Brothers version. The version we copied here was a live Byrds track from "Live at Filmore: February 1969." The timing is somewhat loopy and we tried to get that feeling. I told Brian that this song grabbed me when I was a kid and I first heard it on "Sweetheart". Not for the message, but for its downright hoakie flavor.

Gram sounded a whole lot better than Roger on this one. Even though its a rehearsal I like Clarence on this one too.

Thanks! It us fun working these. Some of these (like this one) were done over a year ago and never had been uploaded etc. It's amazing how much one can actually do these days recording direct to the computer.
